The Senate needs some more convincing that Americans are serious about permanently ending horse slaughter right now. But with most legislators immersed in election battles, it’s hard to know exactly when your calls will be most effective. So I did some research to determine when the best time really is to call your senators to help end horse slaughter today.

Following the November 7th elections, some members of the Senate should be meeting for at least a few hours on November 9th. However, all the Senators will be back in Washington on November 13th, 14th and 15th before taking off another week and a half. Following the Thanksgiving break, the Senate will continue to meet until late December, at which time the session will officially end and any bill that has not yet been passed will have to begin the legislative process all over again from scratch the next year. We want the Senate to vote on S. 1915, the "American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act", before this happens!

Our goal is to convince the Senate to bring this up for a vote on the 13th, 14th or 15th. This means that I’ll start calling my Senators beginning November 8th and I encourage you to do the same. It only takes a minute and it’s so easy. Just call and identify yourself as a constituent, and say that you would like your Senator to be a cosponsor of S. 1915, the "American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act" and that you want them to push to have the bill brought up for a vote ASAP. Since time is so limited and there are many other bills being considered before the end of the year, we need to make sure that Congress recognizes how critical this issue really is!
