Over the last several months I spent countlees hours searching through the rescue farms sites looking for horses I was interested in. I found a half dozen or so of them that I was looking for additional info on. Out of these e-mails I sent I received 0 responses from the farms. I understand that it is a tough job to find homes for all theses horses, but if this is happening to me it makes me wonder how many others it is happening to. I have pretty much givin up on this idea but am still curious as to why the difficulty and how it can be cured before more potential homes are lost. Looking for reasons or ideas.

Thanks for the reply, I had just about given up here to. At this point I think I have resigned myself from the adopting idea. I was hoping to have had one a few months ago so that I could be breaking and training right now in prep for spring. My question is more in regards to wondering why this would happen so that it might prevent others from losing interest. Because I do consider finding good homes a worth while effort I just don't feel like I can walk away from this situation without trying to improve it somehow.

Freedom,

Thanks for posting! It sounds very odd to me that you have been having trouble getting a response. Have you checked your SPAM filter to make sure that you can receive messages from all senders? That would be the first thing I would check. Also, I would recommend finding a phone number for the organizations you're trying to reach, and give them a call.

Secondly, UAN operates the pmurescue.org resource, where more than 50 different organizations post their available PMU horses. You can browse the horses to find one that works for you, and then submit an inquiry for a horse you're interested in through the Web site that goes directly to the organization who has the horse. It's a great way to find available PMU horses and the many different organizations who offer them.

On PMURescue.org it's very easy to compare rescue organizations at a glance to find out more about them. Here's more information about how to choose a rescue group:
http://www.pmurescue.org/nonprofitstatus.php

Plus, a bonus of using PMURescue.org is that adopters of the neediest horses are eligible for a $75 rebate.

This is a great place to meet adopters of PMU horses and share ideas. Best wishes!

Hi Freedom,

I noticed you are in Illinois so I don't know if you attempted to contact our farm, Alder Hill Farm or not. We currently have 34 1.5 year old appaloosas available. We originally rescued 64 from a Canadian farm last November and have found homes for the other 30.

We just moved to MO from OR and I apologize if you have attmepted to contact us. There have been several problems with the email and phone switch overs, but if you are interested you can contact me at (417) 683-9938 or at info@alderhillfarm.com

Please don't give up on helping a horse in need, but unfortunately there are several questionable operations out there and if you are not comfortable with any particular farm then I would definitely advise you to only adopt once all of your questions have been answered.

Good luck.

I have had this same problem. I have emailed through pmurescue.org, emailed to specific people's addresses on their web site and called them to no avail. I checked out some of the links given above and they looked pretty good. I will give it a week or so, then assume the folks just aren't interested in talking to me, which is really unfortunate.

Hi,

I just wanted to add my two cents here. Back in September I found the United Pegasus Foundation’s website www.unitedpegasus.com and found a PMU filly I just had to have. This particular foundation has several locations through out the US. With three here in California where I am located. Fortunately one was 20 miles from where I live. I contacted the local one and left a voicemail on Friday Sept 3rd (I was buying myself a B-Day present). I had a sense of urgency because the website had stated to contact them by August 25th. Two days later Anita Denton called me back and told me I needed to contact Helen Meredith directly. I called her that day and left a message with my home number. I called the next and left my work number and on Wednesday, September 7th I got my return call. My filly was available and still safe. Working with Helen was a pleasure. My only regret was that I had to wait 2 months to get her. But in reality that was a good thing because there was some virus going around and Helen wanted to be sure the foals would stay healthy. In my opinion, this was a great organization to go through. I am sorry you are experiencing difficulties with your quest, these mares and foals really could use the help.

Good luck, and I hope you find assistance with your search. Contact UPF, they were very helpful with bringing Bella to me. Smiler

I have been trying to go through the UPF down here in TX and that's who hasn't returned my calls. We haren't going to give up on getting a rescued horse. It may not be a PMU in the end, but we are definately going to go through a rescue org to get one.

Thanks so much for your interest in adopting a PMU. Remember that there are about 50 different organizations who place PMU horses using PMURescue.org - if one org isn't working out for you, try a different one! Each organization has their own philosophy and way of doing things, so it's perfectly reasonable to "shop around" to find an organization who's style meets your needs.

That said, one of the requirements for organizations listed on PMURescue.org is that they abide by the Terms of Service, which require a timely response to inquiries. If you're not receiving a response within a week or so of an inquiry, you should really contact PMURescue.org directly with the details - the horse number, organization, and dates you have attempted contact.

You can view the Terms of Service here:
http://www.pmurescue.org/tos.php

I hope this helps. Thanks for using PMURescue.org, and have fun finding a horse!

Good luck, I know that some of my filly's siblings went to Texas. Bella was one of BlueBoy's foals. He is a 17.2 hand TB/Perch cross that is a beautiful blue road. Bella is turning out just as beautiful. This is the picture I saw of her and decided I had to have her. Good luck in your quest. I am having a blast with Bella. She is actually turning out to be a "big" confidence booster for me.

We have adopted 3 PMU mares. 1 is pregnant. We are so excited. It was awesome to go meet the horses and immediately begin making a bond with them. One of them is still quite shy with people, but one of my daughters and I were chosen by her! She allowed us to come up to her and pet her multiple times.

Isn't that a wonderful feeling? I love it when Bella is nervous about other people, but when I am with her she walks right up to them too. It is amazing to have a horse trust you in that way.

Oh my Gosh, Nikki! I LOVE that little filly! I was actually interested in that one but noticed that she was one of the first to be adopted! I'm so glad you'r'e doing well with her. She was one of my favorites on the website. I ended up adopting the P13 filly. If I can figure out how, I'll post a picture of her.

I've actually seen pictures of some of the foals and mares from UPF on other rescue organization websites. I was sad to find out that there are so many from that lot who are still up for adoption. If I could, I'd adopt them all. Smiler
