Aloha Everyone Smiler
I am in the process of hopefully adopting a PMU colt. I already have an Arab mare I rescued here in Hawaii and want to help another horse. I applied already for the colt (I have named him Mana which means divine/supernatural power in Hawaiian) and I do have friends who bring horses in from the mainland by barge and I was going to use that method, but I was wondering if there is any established transportation methods for getting these guys to Hawaii. I am not the wealthiest person, but I want get this little guy here safe and sound so any and all advice and suggestions would be appreciated very much. Mahalo and Aloha,

Aloha
I just recently adopted a PMU Percheron filly from the Animali Farm in CA. My girl came off a ranch in Canada down to the Animali Farm for alomst two weeks for a rest then I had her taken up to Sheila Head in Bodega Bay, CA. Sheila Head ships them out of the port of Oakland on a big Matson freighter. The trip only takes four days and it is basically like a barn in a boat. Two attendants ride along to feed and water and make sure every body is ok. My girl arrived in great shape! It is $1,000 for the trip. They will do all the necessary vetting at Sheila's for $125, which is easiest since they know the routine. The boat leaves every two weeks. Your horse will come into the Port of Honolulu and then be taken to the Quarantine Station for immediate pick up. If you are on another island there are barges that will take your horse to neighboring islands for fairly cheap. Young Brothers is the name of the company for that I believe. Sheila Head's number is 707-876-9304. If she does not answer just leave her a message and she gets back with you asap. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!! My girl is the best horse I have ever had in my life. She got here May 30th only halter broke. Never had been started on anything, didn't even know how to be brushed or what a bath was. I have done all her training and now we are out riding trails and riding on the beach wtc and gallop! Even chasing cows around the trails! She is SO SMART, willing, well mannered, and sound minded!
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!!!!!

I hope these come through this is my boy at 1 month he's 5 months now. I spoke with Sheila Hand and one other shipper who will deliver him direct to Big Island, he will leave the port in LA mid-September, Sheila can get him here sooner, bot contracting another interisland shipper has been hard since I am new to this. If he goes with the second shipper my friend wi be bringing in 3-4 horse of her own so he will have trailer ride to my stable. I don't know who to chose i just want my baby to get here safe and sound with as little trauma as possible. For those of you who ship horses all over how to you feel abolut giving them a tube of Probios (to prevent colic), tube of Quietex (Calm & Cool), and a tube of electrolytes. Any advice on that would be greatly appreciated too. Diamond your mare is gorgeous do you jump and ride dressage on her? What a blessing to have rescued her for certain death. I hope we can meet someday once the "superferry" has routes between Big Island and I can travel with him to shows on Oahu.. Thank you for everything and I pray my boy's pictures are visible!
Aloha,
Crazy

Your pics show up but I can't see them since I am at work right now, military inet blocks certain stuff Frowner I will definitely check him out when I get home!
As far as interisland livestock shippers I found Young Brothers' website Smiler http://www.htbyb.com/
They are cheap too. My friends use them ALL THE TIME with no problems Smiler I am sure that Sheila could get your boy to them with no problems. If not you could always fly over real quick.
As far as the calming stuff. I didn't give my girl anything. She was fine. He would be in his own box stall and like I said, there's two people that ride with them to make sure every body is ok. My girl had never been off the ranch in Canada ever before she left for her big trip and every one kept telling me to expect shipping fever or something and she was FINE. She arrived pawing and pacing and chewing on her lead rope, she was ready to just go home! She didn't even lose much weight.
My plans for my girl are jumping, endurance and competitive trail Smiler
Feel free to ask anything else about the trip over Smiler
It would definitely be cool if you guys came over. A fellow "PMU'er" hehe. You don't have to wait for the Superferry to go to the Big Island though, Young Brothers Wink Oh, and some of my friends and I are already talking about maybe planning a trip with our horses to ride on the other islands Smiler Smiler Smiler
