Hi everyone!
WOW! it took me some time to find this forum!

I was hoping that maybe someone could help me with identifying the brand on my Shire that I adopted a few months ago from a local rescue here in Colorado.
Rapunzel is a 12 y/o Shire and former PMU mare, that from my understanding came from a PMU farm somewhere in North Dakota. So far I have had no luck in finding her brand anywhere. Rapunzel's brand is on her left hind quarter and looks something like this: (S
If anyone owns a PMU with this similar brand or knows anything about this brand I'd love to hear from you!
To date Rapunzel has finally gained weight in her hips and just loves beet pulp. She only has been turned out to the hred the past few days. So far she has not bothered too much with anyone, and appears to be happy. I have not been able to touch her, but know that with due time, that will happen, as she needs to find her spot in the "pecking order". Until then I'll be going out when the weather here allows and will be doing tons of "undemanding time" with her.
Here is a before and after pictures of Rapunzel:

When we first adopted her in late June:

Hi Lv_my4leggedkids,

Have you tried searching for the North Dakota brand book online? From this site:
quote:
Brand Book
A Brand Book is a record of all registered brands in a governmental area. In most states of the United States, a single Brand Book is kept for the entire state. In Texas, Brand Books exist for each county since brands are registered at the county level rather than for the entire state.
Brand Books may be obtained by contacting the apppropriate government agency or official in each state. In most cases, you should contact the state Department of Agriculture. Every state that has 'Branding Laws' allows private individuals to purchase Brand Books for a reasonable fee. Most states allow sherrifs and law enforcement agencies within the state to receive Brand Books for free. In some cases, the brand book is available for viewing on the internet. For more specific information about obtaining a Brand Book for a particular state, check the brand laws for that state.

Hi Newt!
Thank you for the quote. Yes, I have googled ND and brand book, but to no avail. All I seem to get are the AG laws.
I was not able to see the actual site that you got your quote from-- are you able to repost that site on here?

Thank you!

Hi Carla,

I am so very sorry. In all the years I've been posting on boards, I think this is only the second time I forgot to include the link. Red Face I did a google with the term: brand book + North Dakota

Here's the link.

I don't know if this will help, but have you tried searching through the North Dakota Stockman's Association? They apparently record brands. Here's their main page.
http://www.ndstockmen.org/index.php?menu=1

Here you can inquire if a brand is available.

Hiya Newt!
Thank you for those sites. have spent the past several days doing more searching, than actual research-- Frowner
No luck yet, but I don't give up that easy. Have taken the time to email some places in Canada & ND with pictures of Rapunzel's brand. Someone out there has GOT to recoginize her brand.
In the meantime, I'm praying for warmer weather here with hopes that I can go out and play with Rapunzel and my Appaloosa, Brulee. Went out to see them today and am proud that Rapunzel finally came to me, after me freezing for almost 30 minutes waiting. I am a "PNH" person and am willing to do whatever it takes to have a relationship with my horse.
If I don't get back here for a while, Merry Christmas to you and have a Happy New Year!
Smiles!

Hi Carla,

Thank you for the holiday wishes. Smiler The day before you posted this my computer crashed. I'm still catching up on mail as it was down for about 3 weeks.

I hope you and Rapunzel are doing well. Were you ever able to find out the id on the brand?
