I am very new to this whole PMU Rescue world. I only happened upon one little foal who needed help and tried to help him. I am learning a lot the hard way.
Cody's Lil Pistol is a pretty lil paint from a rescue farm in NY. The adoption fee was $790, then they charged me $1,150 to transport him to Tennessee (1/2 way) where he arrived with no health certificate! The driver delivered the horse to a friend of mine, handed her a folder full of "papers" and left.
My haulers (from Texas) were already on the way up to Tenn and arrived at my friend's place just to have to turn around and come home. They could not transport him due to ringworm, and I still had to pay them $1,900.
Cody is now resting with a friend in Tennesse, under a vet's care. My friend is caring for him, treating the fungus and getting him well enough for the rest of his trip.
I am in love with my new "baby" already and cannot wait for his arrival, eventually all will be well. But is there anything I can do about the rescue farm which caused me such expense? They have not even offered to help with the vet care much less the wasted hauler fees. We have plenty of documentation, photos and veterinarian statements.
I do not wish to harm a rescue farm... but if they are knowingly sending out unhealthy foals shouldn't something be done?
Please either reply or email me privately at elizabeth_mccull@hotmail.com
Thank you!

Hi Liz,

I'm sorry to hear about you and your new babies struggles. There is not much I can tell you to help the situation.

I will however tell you, the rescue group we got our horses from was wonderful. Still the horses had health issues when they arrived and we've been working on turning that around. I cannot blame the rescue group because they warned us ahead of time about some specific issues and possible non-specific issues. The problem stems from the PMU ranch they came from, and they certainly will not take responsibility.

Good luck. I would also add, that despite the additional work we've had to do, our two girls are fantastic and making great progress! We love them dearly and are so grateful to have them in our lives. I think it will be worth it to you in the long run.

Jeannette
By the way, we are in Glen Rose, TX, where in south TX are you?
