Our rescue has helped with pmu mares and foals for several years... www.liveandletlivefarm.org
this year we are not getting a response to any of the Premarin ranchers to try and get some of the foals...has anyone else run into this problem, we would like to save 10 this year depending on this years costs.
thank you

Hi Teresa,

The ASPCA has a newsletter alert about 250 PMU horses they have for adoption. Maybe that will help. Here's the article.

I just saw that United Pegasus Foundation posted many new foals today on http://www.pmurescue.org that need to be placed ASAP or they will be going to a feedlot in Canada and probably end up in slaughter. Some have until Oct. 15th it looks like, others until the end of November. It absolutely breaks my heart. I wish I could save them all, but as I'm currently in the process of adopting one right now, my resources are tapped. I hope and pray they find homes soon.

I just happened by this message board and looked at this post. I just wanted to let you know that I am in the process of adopting one of the foals through United Pegasus Foundation that you were referring to. She is actually AT the feedlot right now, she has been there since at least August. She is the little appy cross filly (SB#13) on their Slaughter Bound section on their website. I am very excited about getting her.

Hi, Katertott. That makes me SO happy! Good for you! I just wish we could save them all, you know? I was so sad when I saw all those horses with such little time left that UPF posted. Glad you're helping out Smiler I hope everything goes wonderfully for you and your new filly. You're adopting a yearling too, I see. I'm adopting a yearling Percheron/QT horse cross from Serenity Acres - see: Kristin's horse. I'm so excited for her to arrive... Getting really ancy as they haven't given me an exact date yet for her delivery. I'm just waiting for Serenity Acres to fill up their trailer for them to make a trip out here to the West Coast. (If anyone needs to have a horse shipped from North Dakota-area to West Coast, there is still room avail. and prices are quite reasonable.)

Be sure to keep us updated on how things are going! I always love seeing the "coming home" pictures.

Thanks Smiler I probably won't see my babe until close to Christmas. UPF is trailering the adopted horses sometime in November across Canada to Arkansas (the closest drop point for buyers around the South like me) and then she will need to be quarantined before I pick her up for about a month since I board. I'm excited about getting her.

There is another filly on the feedlot that I absolutely love, although I'm not sure I can make the commitment financially to care for 2 right now (waiting on a new job offer) I may see if I am able to buy her at least if she is still remaining when the final day is near and donate her to a rescue group. She is SB #6, she looks like a gorgeous draft mix.

Your little filly is adorable, I love the draft breeds. I've always thought they were so gentle and I'll admit it is still very tempting to get this other filly for myself as well.

I recently lost my father to a very sudden cancer and one of the worst parts about that was feeling so helpless to end the suffering. I would like to think that although I can't end all of the suffering for the horses that I've always loved so much, if I can save one or two at a time it's a start.
