How do some of you start your foals? I have mine halter broke and she leads pretty good. However, we have a problem with personal space. I've heard not to work them in the round pen because it's not good on thier joints as they are still developing. Bella is 9 months and is already huge. I am afraid to wait, and I am sure there is way of working with her without injury. Any thoughts?

I have found this place to be most informative:
Horsekeeping

Training Progression

Personal Space

Hope some of this helps.

We took our 10 month old filly, Gypsy, to a Perelli clinic with Christi Rains in Glen Rose, Texas and it was great. Gypsy is very respectful of our space and will yield to the slightest pressure. There are other Perelli instructors around the country, just go to www.parelli.com.
Best wishes,
