Hi! I live in the middle of Missouri. Are there any places to purchases horses/foals close to here? It seems like most facilities are on the east or west coast, or up north in/by Canada. I think the closest for me is in Oklahoma. Is there a way to link to others in this area who might be intersted in purchasing a horse/foal and sharing a trailer/travel expenses? Thanks! Jeano in Missouri.

Hi Jeano and welcome!

Wyeth contracts with ranchers to produce PMU only in Canada and a few ranches in North Dakota. PMU horses are routinely shipped all over the country to their new homes - so where you live doesn't really matter. There are rescue organizations based all over the country, but many rescue organizations work with out-of-state adopters.

I recommend visiting PMUrescue.org and if there's a horse you're interested in, complete the inquiry form and ask the organization responsible for that horse about their adoption policy.

Many organizations will help you network with other adopters to minimize transportation costs.

I hope that previous PMU adopters will share their stories here and provide you with first-hand experience!

Yes, that's how I got my beautiful, loving Appaloosa (Appy Lucia) was through UAN PMUrescue.org. She came out of Pennsylvania and I took the trip to see her (I already knew that I wanted her) and we bonded. The PMU rescue orgs. are very helpful and nicer people you could never meet! I've not had even a second of regret that I adopted my PMU horse. I thank God that I got her!! Smiler

Hello!
I have three PMU mares and it has been a great experience. Take a look at Animali Farm's site, http://www.theanimalifarm.com and go to "Upcoming Loads" button----this shows you the different states they going near. These horses are also listed on the PMUrescue.org website---they are located in Alberta, there are over 400+ to choose from from four different farms--both light and draft breeds and everything in between, and the director of the organization has personally photographed each horse, so she knows lots about them. Good luck with your search! We have adopted a PMU baby (now four and I am riding him!) and the 3 mares (just arrived in May and two are under saddle already) and it is a heartwarming experience. I especially loved getting the mares---they have been SO rewarding to see them go from half-wild to big lap dogs!

Be careful who you use to transport your horse(s). I hired a hauler out of Billings, MT. He picked up my mare and before he could put together a full transport, he was arrested, spent time in jail, ended up under house arrest with an ankle bracelet (ala Martha Stewart). He had my mare and I was unable to reach anyone in his employ. After 20-odd days, someone else was finally able to complete the haul. I was frantic and very upset. Ingrid in CA

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to give you a quick update on our upcoming move from Oregon to Missouri. We finally visited the farm we purchased on-line and we love it (thank goodness)! Our official final day of our "real" jobs is December 15!!!!

THIS IS THE TIME TO ADOPT!

We are going to be transporting the remaining 40 yearlings in the next few months. We are really hopeful that we will be able to adopt out several more and provide the transportation at a minimal cost to the adopter.

We will be personally transporting 10 horses at a time in a large stock trailer with regular stops for food, water and exercise. In fact, my nephew who is a professional hauler, has generously volunteered to spend his vacation time hauling the babies! Please contact me ASAP if you would like to adopt a baby and arrange for transportation at least as far as Missouri at a reduced price!

If you are considering adopting a PMU horse, please visit our website at http://www.alderhillfarm.com and check out our gorgeous appaloosa babies. We would like to find homes for the remaining yearlings ASAP so that we will be able to save more this fall.

We are so excited, the horses will have miles to play in the river, frolic in the pastures and roam through the woods! We will also have an arena to train the babies in and maybe even have the capabilty of taking some mares in the future! We are also going to be working to close the IL plant!

I just adopted a baby from the animalifarm and I am waiting for her. I should be picking her up soon. Did you have a pretty good experience with them? I have so far. I guess I am just nervous/anxious because I have never done this before.
