I think adopting a pmu foal or horse would be one of the greatest gifts you could give yourself, (I'm sure the horse would think so too!)I have had a few family members beat cancer, and I know the physical and emotional pain you go through.. I adopted a foal from United Pegasus Foundation last november, and it was a great experience. My filly is a draft X about 10 months old, and the sweetest horse I've known. I was concerned about her being alone here, but she seems to be fine. I spend alot of time outside with her, grooming, training, playing, or just hanging out together. She gets along really well with the dogs. If she gets lonely , she yells or stomps her feet outside the back door and someone goes out to see her. My life is so much better because of her. I can't believe how happy she makes me!
So go for it!! check out pmurescue.org they have alot of beautiful horses waiting for you.

I adopted five PMU horses from a ranch in North Dakota last March ('06), and they are great horses. My goal was just to rescue four (and obviously brought five home) with the idea to find them new homes here in Central Illinois. I still have them all, although I do plan to find them homes soon, and have been giving them some basic training. They are all beautiful and should be wonderful animals.
Adopting a PMU horse, or any other horse, through a rescue/humane organization is a great way to save a life and to enrich your own.

My sister adopted a wonderful mare from "Hope for Horses" rescue. she is beauty white Percheron cross. Only 15 hands tall and a sweet heart. It took alot of patience, but she is coming along perfectly. any info or help you need , I would be glad to give advice. I think it is a wonderful idea. amy
