Rescued horse now serving with mounted state police

For the Love of Horses has been adopting out beautiful animals to good homes for years. Formerly of Spartansburg, now of Erie County, the organization has a reputation for success stories when it comes to making the right placements for their PMU rescue horses in the community.

One placement ended up with the horse being donated to the mounted unit of the Pennsylvania State Police by a trooper from the Meadville barracks. Flash, along with three other mounted state police horses, will be at the Crawford County Fair through Sunday from 2 to 10 p.m., doing patrol work, helping in the parking lot, crowd control and community relations.

For the Love of Horses is a registerd, non-profit organization dedicated solely to the rescue, adoption and placement of pregnant mare urine (PMU) foals. As many as 65,000 mares are used to collect the mass volume of urine needed to produce the drug Premarin. This drug is prescribed to alleviate symptoms of menopause and help prevent osteoporosis.
