I'm just now noticing that most of the PMU rescues on this site have closed down. I guess that had something to do with the news this past summer of Wyeth or NAERIC no longer working with rescues?
But, other rescues are still adopting out PMU horses. I don't get it. |

Hi Antoinette,
Thank you for posting. From conversations with rescues and other sources, we believe that it is true that Wyeth has prohibited currently contracted ranchers from selling their unwanted horses to organizations who consider themselves part of the "rescue" movement. Rescue organizations are still receiving PMU horses via auctions, other chains of sale, feedlots and from PMU ranches who have had their contracts cut. PMU horses are certainly still in need of rescue - right now there are 465 in need of adoptive homes on PMURescue.org! Karen UAN Program Director |

About 80% of their PMU farms closed during 2005/2006 there was a glut of horses on the market as farms weren't keeping replacements and were dumping ALL the horses. The industry is slowly becoming a thing of the past (WOO HOO)
I bought a yearling from a feedlot in Canada through United Pegasus Foundation ( http://www.unitedpegasus.org ) they have long standing relationships with some of the ranches and are committed to rescuing as many as possible. They have rescues in several states - I highly recommend them. |
