Hi, everyone! I just wanted to share with y'all the good news that my new PMU filly (a yearling 3/4 Percheron 1/4 Quarter Horse that I've named Freya) arrived safe and sound. Aside from her feet needing a good trimming, I was actually quite impressed with the condition she arrived in. She arrived beginning of December, so I've had her a little over a month now.

She's come a long way in the amount of time she's been with me, but she still has a lot of work to do... When I first got her, if I or anyone else was standing outside her paddock, she would be in the far corner, standing as far away as possible from any human... She wouldn't even come to eat her hay if there was a person nearby. Now she'll follow me around and eat grain out of my hand. She's still really nervous, particularly around other people, but she's becoming more and more comfortable. A man at my stable who has done a lot of excellent work with rescued/previously unhandled horses is going to work with Freya and me once a week -- which is great, too, because she is especially uncomfortable around men. She still won't let me touch her aside from occassionally touching her nose when she's eating grain out of my hand, but every day she gets a bit better.

You know, I heard it from so many of you before I adopted Freya, and I'll echo the same sentiment myself: this has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It's been wornderful watching Freya progress; she is an absolute joy.

I'm going to try out the photo posting thing (thanks, Karen, for posting instructions). Hopefully it'll work Smiler Freya's rather messy in the pics since she won't let me groom her yet.

Blessings for the new year,

Kristin

Freya's face - close up. Isn't she adorable? I've always wanted a black horse.

She's such a messy eater... It cracks me up, because she always ends up with hay all over her face after she eats. As you can tell, she also enjoys a good roll in the mud Wink
