Hi Cindy, So sorry about your loss. I can't imagine losing my Cody..... Where are you located? If you are in CA, there are several PMU rescues. It just depends on where you are.

Hi Cindy -

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your horse and companion.

One option is to visit UAN's PMURescue.org Web site to search for a foal.

If you click on "Search" you'll see that you can identidy adoptable horses by age, along with some other criteria (breed, gender, etc). It looks like there are more than 50 adoptable horses under one year of age on PMURescue.org right now.

This forum is also a great way to communicate with other people who have adopted PMU foals to get advice and suggestions during your search.

Good luck!

Thanks Alexis for your info. I have been checking out the pmurescue site and have found a few that caught my eye. I think that I would like to adopt a draft or a draft corss. I have always loved the big horses and think that if I get a draft it would be best to get a baby so that we can develop a unique bond with each other. I am 5'2" and having been around some big older drafts with some bad habits. I think it would be best for both to start out young. I am glad to have found this site and be able to chat with others who have adopted pmu's

Dana, How old was Cody when you adopted him? He is gorgeous and sounds like he is a awesome guy.

Hi Cindy,

I adopted Cody at 11 mos. of age from United Pegasus Foundation. They used to have a facility in Hemet and now they are based in Tehachapi so maybe that would be closest to you. Go to their website: unitedpegasus.com and check them out. There is also a PMU facility in Santa Maria called Animali Farm and they also have a website. Many of the PMU rescues have horses/foals available that are still in Canada in feedlots and you can choose a horse and have it shipped to you.

Thank you for your compliments. He really is something, so calm, good natured, really likes people and getting out and going places. He's always the one with his head hanging over the fence saying "Take me, take me." Keep us updated on your search!!
