Hi. I just found your site and was reading through the information on Premarin. Huge alarm bells have gone off for me. My daughter is 6 and our peditrician prescribed applying Premarin cream to her labial adhesion. We tried on and off for over a year. We have given up now and will be having it taken care of surgically. However, I am very concerned about whether I have increased my daughter´s risk for breast cancer, stroke and heart disease. Can someone advise me on how concerned I should be?

You should not be concerned about the risk to your daughter. Estrogen cream is commonly used for labial adhesions in young girls. I am not aware of any adverse effects in these patients.
All the studies showing increased risk of heart attack, cancer and stroke were done in perimenopausal and menopausal women. There is no basis to apply those results to a prepubescent girl. Also, the systemic uptake from a cream is much less than from an oral pill. It is too bad your doctor didn't prescribe ESTRACE cream, an estrogen cream (from a reputable drug company) made from plant precursors. They may want her to use a cream during the healing process after the surgery, so refuse the Premarin cream and insist on Estrace, it is also less expensive! |
