I had a hysterectomy at age 32 (now 47) I was put straight onto Premarin with no questions asked as the doctor said "you need to be on this to prevent osteoporosis etc."
I had a bad riding accident age 18, broke my jaw, skull and fractured my back. I had an operation in 1999 to try to mend my back, it failed and i am now permanently disabled. The doctor said that the Premarin would help with bone growth and that I really needed to take it!!!

Him being the doctor i did as i was told. It was not until i was 41 that i learnt through the internet how Premarin was made. I felt ashamed and angry at myself that i had contributed to horses suffering, just to make me feel better. I cried for days after seeing all the PMU videos on You Tube and couldn't believe that 'I who loved horses' had in some way caused them pain and suffering. How did i 'someone who has grown up with horses, owned and loved several' not know this.

I went to my doctor and asked him why he had not told me what was in Premarin as he knew through my back ground that i loved horses. His answer was "I didn't know it had mare's urine in it, we give it to all our patients who need HRT". I was very angry at his lack of knowledge of this pill that was being given to all so freely!!! and left the doctors in a rage!!!

After researching and knowing that there was synthetic options, I went back apologiesed for my behavior and asked if i could have the synthetic kind. His response
"sorry it is too expensive, our practice does not have the funds so we don't give it to anyone" I was outraged and once again left fuelled with anger!

It has now been 6 years since i stopped taking Premarin or any other kind of HRT. I will not be a party to horses suffering to relieve my hot flushes. Yes, i suffer the effects, but am prepared to suffer knowing that i am not contributing to the silent abuse of these poor mares!!

I have a my space account, on which i have put a lot of information and videos about Premarin and PMU mares.
I have a face book account on which there is similar data for anyone to read!!
I want the world to know how Premarin is made and more so want every women who takes it to stop.

This can only be done by making this information readily available. I wrote to the makers of Premarin several years ago...needless to say i did not get a response!!!
I have a beautiful Gelderland mare whom i adore, she is my life and has taught me to ride again...to think other mares are suffering makes my heart heavy with pain. i wish i could adopt a PMU mare, but living in England it seems impossible!!

I can not thank you enough for making more women aware of the abuse these horses suffer, to relieve their hormonal symptoms'. I tell anyone and everyone who will listen. We must stop this abuse to these magnificent animals. There is no need WHATSOEVER to use PMU when there are and have been for years...synthetic alternatives. It is purely about money, PMU is readily available at little cost...manufactures don't care about the suffering...just profit!!

I would value anyone else's stories...reply to precisousjules@msn.com

P.S Today has been one of the best days of my life...I have just bought a 16.2Hh Gelderland mare, only just bedded her down!!! She is in full livery due to my disability, but i can assure anyone that reads this...she is going to be loved soooooo much, treated with respect and given all the kindness my body has to give!! I cant wait until i can ride her (not fair to ride on her first day in new home) i spent most of today walking her round, showing her her new mates etc. (although i had to take a lot of morphine to do it...but i am determined) I kissed her goodnight, cant wait to get there tomoz to see if she ok or pining for her lost herd....i hope not!!!

Well thats my story...anyone want to chat...feel free!!!

In 2002 my doctor put me on Premarin to help reduce heavy bleeding during periods, I stopped taking the drug after 2 months because it made the bleeding worse. Do Not take this drug. If I had known where this drug came from I would have never taken it. There is a product called Natural Relief that is available which is all natural. Spread the word to all women who may not know about Premarin and how it is made. Awarness is the key to help the horses and say no to Premarin.
