Norma Rodriguez, EARS California State Coordinator, has been monitoring the situation and has been in touch with several shelters receiving companion animals. County Animal Control is familiar with EARS and, if the need arises, will contact us. LA County is generally very well-prepared and equipped to handle large evacuations. If the situation changes, we will post more information.
We've been in contact with representatives of Wildlife Waystation and they are safe at this time.
I encourage everyone to be VERY skeptical of what you read via forwards and xposts... more often than not, the info is outdated or inaccurate, or sometimes not intended for the broad public audience (especially if it contains phone numbers.) It is often posted by a well-meaning person who is not connected to the org, maybe heard it on the news or through the grapevine, but isn't in a position to be controlling the information such that it can be updated as the situation changes. Just my personal experience from what I've observed.
In this instance, Wildlife Waystation did need help and they got what they needed. Now they're reporting only a need for monetary donations, and of course prayers/good thoughts that the fire stays away from the sanctuary. Scary stuff!
