I came accross an interesting gadget today at Home Depot. it's a pencil cap on a retractable reel that can be clipped to a shirt or waistband. It's designed for a flat carpenter's pencil, but it will also hold an ordinary pencil or a Bic stick pen. I found it in the tool department for $1.99.
