I'm posting this mid-June. If you live near a Target store, you might want to check out their "dollar store" area in the front of the store. Currently, they are featuring cheap camping supplies, $1 to $2.50. Included are light sticks, rain ponchos, and my favorite, mylar emergency blankets. The blankets are only a dollar each. They're great for puting under your sleeping bag to reflect your body heat back up at you, and by the same token, to wrap very young puppies or kittens or hypothermic animals in to warm them up. A layer of this blanket material can also be sewed between two layers of polarfleece to creat a heat reflecting pet bed or kennel liner. Another usefull item for $1 there is a small first aid kit. Now, the comtents of the kit leave a lot to be desired but what you get for a buck is a zippered nylon pouch labeled First Aid that is perfectly sized to fit in a lower pocket on cargo pants and also had a belt loop. Fill it with your own supplies and you're in business. This is a great chance to stock your emergency response kit at a low price. Hurry, they seem to rotate merchandise in the "dollar Store" monthly.

Thanks for the info. I love that section of the store. I have gotten stuff like a compass, waterproof matches, whistles and other handy rescue/wilderness type stuff there. I'm gonna have to go shopping!

Karen, Thank you for posting this. I had read it and then 2 weeks ago I was in a Target store. I purchsed several of the first aid kits to put in our vehicles. My hubby said, 'cool' and put it in his vehicle. Two days later he was attending a large family picnic with friends and a woman fell and cut open her knee. He said that he was the only one with a first aid kit.

Hugs,

There are also some companies on line which sell emergency survival kits for pets. I have 3 cats, and a bunny rabbit.
