Dare to Prepare is a year-long earthquake readiness campaign that was just launched in southern California to raise earthquake awareness and encourage earthquake readiness.

Part of the campaign is something called "Secure your Space" (ie: retrofitting weaknesses in buildings and securing things that can fall over, like filing cabinets, with special straps.)

Those of you in California looking to help animals in disaster might want to get involved with Securing the Space of your local animal shelters.

This will keep the animals and their caretakers safer in the event of a big quake; it's a good networking event; it's a way to keep animal disaster preparedness in the news (at least in CA); and being pro-active now will make things go quicker and more safely if a big quake happens.

The official "Dare to Prepare" website is: www.daretoprepare.org

This is a great idea and a perfect opportunity for our volunteers. We encourage volunteers to work with their local shelters to build relationships and promote planning for animals during emergencies.

Thanks for your post!
